BACKGROUND TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT
The Privileges Committee (“Committee”) was established by Parliament on 19 June 2020 to review relevant legislations, Standing Orders 393 to 396 and the proposed new draft Code of Conduct for Members and report back to Parliament with a draft Code of Conduct for consideration by Parliament.
Following a review by the Privileges Committee chaired by MP Tingika Elikana of a proposed Code of Conduct drafted by former Clerk of Parliament Mr. Tangata Vainerere, the Committee’s Report on the review accompanied by the proposed Code of Conduct was tabled in Parliament as Paper 94 by the Minister responsible for Parliamentary Services, Hon. Vainetutai Rose Toki-Brown on Tuesday 23 March 2021 and was subsequently passed by Parliament on the same day.
